Under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant works in tandem with the Payroll Specialist to produce the agency’s semi-monthly payroll using ADP WorkForce Now, including production of paychecks and accompanying reports and journal entries, liaison to staff, management and ADP regarding payroll questions and information, processes and procedures regarding payroll related activity and the security of employee and personnel information, tracks and pays monthly union dues and workers compensation. Additionally, the Staff Accountant performs a variety of general accounting functions for multiple corporations which may include: accurate, timely and complete computerized data entry/posting of accounts payable/journal entries/revenue into accounting system; reconciliations, tracking and reporting required information. Provide back up and support to the accounting team as needed.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Assist in completing the semi-monthly payroll process according to Encompass payroll procedures.
-Maintain relationship with ADP customer service to provide the agency with best practices for payroll and payroll reporting to management and staff.
-Maintain accurate employee data in the ADP portal and process all new and separating employees.
-Provide monthly overtime reports to directors.
-Post and track per component State Unemployment Insurance costs for each pay period.
-Provide support and respond to payroll questions and perform research and reconciliation projects as needed.
-Assist with a variety of duties which may include data entry, mailing, form maintenance and distribution, tracking spreadsheets, report printing and distribution, filing and storage.
-Provide support and respond to financial questions, research or projects as needed by management, liaisons and auditors.
-Documentation of processes and procedures of accounting functions.
-Responsible for effective participation in continuous improvement of operations.
-Provide back up and support to the accounting department as needed.
-Participate in Accounting Team and/or combined meetings with Analysts.
-Additional duties as assigned.
-2+ years accounting experience
-2+ years in payroll
-Experience with ADP preferred
-BA degree in finance or accounting or equivalent experience
-Knowledge of accounting principles
-Self-motivated, hard-working team player with positive attitude
-Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office Products
-Accounting software experience required
-Strong verbal and written communication skills
-Very well-organized and strong attention to detail
-Maintain confidentiality in daily operations and conduct business in professional manner.
